MEDITATION: 10 MINUTES A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

Are you always in a rush? Do you feel tired and find it hard to concentrate? It happens to us sometimes too! Some days can feel like a race against time, we have too much to do, life ends up feeling like one giant to-do list making us feel anxious and stressed. The pace of modern life is truly testing, it can make us feel off kilter and unstable, harming our productivity, creativity and our relationships.

When did you last take 10 minutes to do absolutely nothing?
No emailing, texting, no internet, no TV, no chatting, no reading not even sitting and reminiscing about the past.

This is the question Headspace founder Andy Puddicombe asked the audience at the start of his TED talk. The mindfulness expert who has made meditation mainstream believes that dedicating just 10 minutes a day to practising mindfulness and living in the moment has the power to transform your life.

 

OUR MINDS ARE AN INCREDIBLY PRECIOUS RESOURCE BUT WE NEVER DEDICATE TIME TO TAKING CARE OF THEM.

This leaves us stressed, distracted and loaded with so many thoughts we start to forget things that are important. Why do we accept living like this because it really doesn’t have to be this way.

Learning to live totally in the present is often undervalued. Meditation gives us the opportunity to take a step back and get a different perspective that is more detached. Life doesn’t always work out how we planned but we can change our attitude to how we approach those unexpected curveballs.

We believe that everyone should choose the meditation method that works best for them and create their own personal routine in order to practise opening the mind and learning to listen to it. There are many key practises, techniques and schools of thought, all are valid if they help us feel good.

We downloaded the Headspace app because it is very easy to use and you can take it with you everywhere. On top of other personal practises, it has helped us regularly take 10 minutes out of our day to get a bit of headspace.
