Le Prunier is a wonderful brand made in Sutter County, California. As most organic beauty brands it has a beautiful story behind, made of love and passion. It’s been founded in 2014 by siblings Jacqueline, Allison and Elaine Taylor.
We’ve asked them a few things about Le Prunier, Plum Beauty Oil and their favourite wellness rituals, from the inside out.
Read below what they told us.
In conversation with Jacqueline, Allison and Elaine Taylor, founders of Le Prunier
1. Any anecdote behind your decision to create a beauty product with plum seed oil?
Jacqueline: Our family has been farming California’s central valley for over 100 years and organic plums for nearly 30, and currently operate as the world’s largest organic grower and producer of dried plums. My sisters and I always knew we wanted to find a way to reinvent the image of the dried plum since it has always been an overlooked and underrated fruit. However, it wasn’t until we were all out of college and we each gained work + life experience that we decided to singularly focus on this mission.
After putting our heads together, we realised there was a gap in the cosmetic market. In Asia, they highly regard the plum as a powerful superfood and beauty food, however, in the U.S. and abroad, plums weren’t regarded as such. Inspired by the dried plum’s incredible digestive powers, we partnered with two world-renowned labs in 2014 to explore the plums benefits, particularly of the overlooked byproducts.
After two years of clinical testing, we discovered Le Prunier’s Plum Beauty Oil was shown to significantly brighten skin tone – resulting in more radiant skin tone. Upon learning this, we felt compelled to share the knowledge we had discovered with the world. As such, Le Prunier was born!
2. Why is Le Prunier face oil so potent?
Jacqueline: It goes without saying, Plum Beauty Oil is a natural workhorse and antioxidant powerhouse. First and foremost, dried plums are extremely rich in antioxidants that naturally nourish and replenish the skin.
A study conducted by researchers from Tufts University in Boston ranked dried plums as containing one of the highest amounts of antioxidants of any fruits or vegetables, even more so than kale, spinach and blueberries. Therefore, it only makes sense that the byproducts from the plum would contain equally high amounts of all-natural benefits. Extracted from the seed of our organic plums, Le Prunier is a cold-pressed beauty oil that is rich in fatty acids as well as antioxidants, polyphenols, pro-vitamin A and Vitamin E. Fatty acids help seal in the cracks in the outer layer of the skin, while antioxidants help prevent against free radical damage (pollutants, UV rays, etc).
Not to mention, our patent pending blend of Plum Beauty Oil is 8x more powerful than Argan oil and 6x more powerful than Marula oil at defending against damaging free radicals™.
3. Who do you suggest it to? And is it safe for pregnant women?
Jacqueline: Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil is perfect for all ages and for both men and women! Our oil is Hypoallergenic certified, Allergy tested & certified and contains no fragrances, nuts or essential oils. Therefore, it’s safe for all skin types and extremely gentle to the skin if mixed with other products.
Also, because its multi-purpose and naturally rich in Vitamin E, it can be used in place of your moisturizer, eye serum or used in combination with your current skincare routine. Additionally, our oil contains no irradiation, nanomaterials, pesticides or Prop 65 and CMR chemicals known to cause reproductive health issues. It is also Gluten Free, Halal, PETA certified (Vegan & Cruelty Free) and USDA & CCOF Certified Organic.
4. How do you personally use it and which benefits have you experienced on your own skin/hair?
Jacqueline: Since I was a teen, I’ve struggled with hormonal acne and oily skin. Therefore, I have to be very cautious and conscious about the integrity of a product before applying it to my skin. For that reason, I love being able to use Plum Beauty Oil with complete confidence knowing it’s Non-comedogenic so it won’t clog my pores or promote acne.
Not to mention, since it’s doubles as a moisturizer, I enjoy using it both day and night to keep my skin feeling soft and hydrated. As an added bonus, in the morning, I apply a few drops of Plum Beauty Oil to the palm of my hand and blend together with my concealer to create a smooth finish under my eyes. It helps to keep me looking refreshed after a long days work!
Allison: I love using Le Prunier in the evenings after I cleanse and tone. I apply a generous amount to my hands and gently press the oil onto my entire face including my neck and décolleté. It has the most amazing aroma and is really one of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day. I love waking up and seeing the results – my skin appears smoother, deeply hydrated and revitalized.
I’ve noticed a reduction in sun spots and dark spots which has been great. I live in Santa Monica so there’s sun pretty much 365 days a year. I love that I can rely on something natural to help treat skin issues that would otherwise require harsh products. I’ve also dealt with hormonal skin over the years and this oil really helps put me at ease knowing that I can rely on its healing and calming benefits. I seriously don’t go a day without using it. It’s my secret weapon ☺
5. What’s your favourite wellness ritual?
Allison: I’m obsessed with all things health and wellness. I find being in nature and getting a good work out in does wonders for me. Whether that’s taking a yoga class or going for a hike in the Santa Monica mountains with my pup – I love being active. I also try to meditate a few times a week. Some weeks it’s harder than others but I do my best to find the time. It really helps to stay centered and present. I also think practicing gratitude is one of the key things in my life that’s led to greater satisfaction and happiness overall.
6. Speaking of beauty inside/out, how do you stay beautiful from the inside out (and viceversa)?
Allison: Beauty is such a holistic thing.. my sisters and I truly believe it all starts from within. We were raised on a farm so it goes without saying we established really healthy eating habits at an early age which have stuck with us. I enjoy eating clean with lots of fresh fruits, veggies, fish, etc but I definitely don’t deprive myself.
I believe in finding a balance and making sure you’re enjoying your life… if that means wine and pasta every so often, then so be it! When you feel healthy and happy on the inside, it’s reflected in your outer appearance so start with your diet and go from there!
7. In which ways is your brand sustainable and ethical?
Allison: Le Prunier is completely sustainable and ethical from start to finish. We’re cold-pressing the discarded plum kernels from our family farm which were previously a waste product in order to make our proprietary blend of Plum Beauty Oil.
We utilise a revolutionary waste water filtration system on the farm which essentially recycles all of our water, we recycle all packaging materials, we use solar panels on all of our facilities in California, and we’re an herbicide-free farm meaning our soil is extremely healthy and free of pesticides. By using natural fertilisation methods and cover crops, we ensure our plums are grown in the purest conditions.
Our ingredients are eco-friendly, vegan, cruelty-free, organic and natural and our business prides itself on ethical sourcing, conscious packaging as well as reducing our waste and energy usage.
