As we said in our article all about how to make savoury porridge, oatmeal is chock-full of amazing nutrients. But that’s not all, it’s also great for the health of your skin. This is thanks to that fact oatmeal is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties as well as having a high avenanthramide content.
Oatmeal is particularly good for treating greasy skin that is prone to breakouts and acne because it absorbs the excess sebum while it also deeply disinfects and calms red areas. It contains natural detergents that help unblock pores and stabilise the skin’s pH balance.
OATMEAL DIY FACE MASK: HOW TO MAKE IT
As well as oats, our DIY face mask contains two other key ingredients to help relieve greasy, acne prone skin: aloe vera and turmeric.
Aloe vera contains precious polysaccharides, MSM (a form of organic sulphur often linked to beauty) and saline acids. These substances have soothing, healing and calming properties that are particularly good for dealing with acne and spots. We love RE:Fresh by Plant Apothecary. Add a few sprays to the mix: it will make your mask even more hydrating, calming, anti-inflammatory and, last but not least, will progressively smooth acne scars and dark spots!
Turmeric is widely known as a powerful natural anti-inflammatory, which also works when it’s applied directly on the skin. It is often used to treat problems like acne, dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis and is great for healing, helping to reduce signs of scarring and imperfections. Last but definitely not least, it also promotes a natural healthy glow and reduces signs of wrinkles.
Feeling lazy or don’t have time to make this face mask? No problem! We’ve also included a few Plentiness approved suggestions that are also amazing and get great results.

- 2 Tbsp of organic oats di avena bio
- 2 Tbsp of Aloe Vera gel 99%
- 1 Tsp of organic turmeric powder
Put the oats in a blender and mix into a fine flour. If you would like your mask to have a light scrub effect you can blend the oats a little less however, this will make the mask harder to apply.
Add the aloe ver gel and the turmeric powder gently mixing it in to create an easy spreadable paste. If the mixture seems to dry, add more aloe vera.
Keep hair off face with a headband and apply the mixture to face.
Lie down, close your eyes and enjoy 15 minutes of total relaxation, far away from any computers and mobile phones.
Rinse the mask off with warm water and finish with a splash of cold water to close pores.
